International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate the achievements of women, but also to reflect on the impact that support, opportunity and leadership can have.
This year’s theme, Give To Gain, feels especially meaningful to us as a female-led law firm. Every day, we see the value of what the women at Emerald Law give, to their clients, their colleagues, their families and their communities.
In law, giving can mean many things: giving time to listen, giving clear advice in uncertain moments, giving confidence to someone facing a difficult decision, or giving opportunities for others to grow.
And when that happens, everyone gains.
Our clients gain trusted support. Our teams gain stronger collaboration. Our business gains perspective, resilience and leadership. And our community gains committed advocates who care deeply about making a difference.
This International Women’s Day, and every day, we're grateful for the women across our firm whose knowledge, empathy and determination help shape better outcomes every day.
To mark the occasion, we asked some of the women at Emerald Law to reflect on International Women's Day, the theme of Give to Gain, and what it means to them.
Courtney Burns, Apprentice Solicitor
“Working alongside other women in the firm has given me perspective, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the power of collaboration over competition. I’ve gained mentors and friends who inspire me daily through their strength, empathy, and ambition. One piece of advice I would give to other women is to own your voice. Your perspective is valuable, even when it challenges the status quo. Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready; growth happens when you step forward.”
Lucy Cartlidge, Housing Disrepair Solicitor
“While 53% of solicitors in the UK are women, only 32% of senior roles or partnership roles held by women! At Emerald Law Solicitors, majority of the management/senior positions are female led which is nothing but encouraging for the other women in the firm. I am inspired to come into work every day and have learned so much in the 3 years that I have been here, and that is all thanks to being afforded the time and support of the other women in the firm. I have gained so much knowledge from the women around me and I am incredibly grateful to work with such inspiring women.”
Charlotte Aribike, Paralegal
"One of the greatest privileges of being a junior in law has been the women I have had the privilege of working with - watching them lead with both strength and authenticity. The women who become partners in a firm while keeping their quirks, their warmth, their humour, and their whole selves. There is something extraordinary about witnessing a woman who rises to the challenge of building an entire team from scratch, creating a vision, shaping a culture, and turning a one‑woman effort into a collective force. It’s wonderful to see this shift taking shape in the corporate world. There is still work to be done, but with women like these redefining what leadership looks like, I know the future of women in the workforce will be something to be reckoned with."
Across every department, and at every stage of career progression, the women at Emerald Law make an invaluable contribution to the way we work and the way we support our clients. Their dedication, leadership and willingness to lift others up reflects exactly what Give To Gain is all about.
When women are given opportunities, recognition and support, they do not just thrive individually, they strengthen teams, improve workplaces, and create better outcomes for the people around them.
That is something worth celebrating.
This International Women’s Day, we are proud to recognise the women across our firm who continue to make a difference every single day. Their influence is felt not only in the work we do, but in the culture we are building together.
From all of us at Emerald Law, Happy International Women’s Day.
