What Is a UK Visit Visa?
A UK visit visa (Standard Visitor Visa) allows you to enter the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family, business meetings, medical treatment or short-term study.
To qualify, you must meet the UK visitor visa requirements, including proof of your intention to leave the UK and evidence you can fund your stay.
Not all travellers to the UK require a visit visa. If you are a national of a country that is listed on the UK’s Visa National List, you must apply for a visit visa. You can check if you need this here.
If you are a national of a country on the Visa National List, you must then meet the eligibility criteria before you can apply for your visa.

- Family Visit Visa UK: For visiting family members who live in the UK, one of the most frequently refused categories without strong evidence.
- Business Visitor Visa: For meetings, conferences, negotiations, or client visits (no paid work allowed).
- Short-Term Study Visa: For approved courses lasting up to 6 months.
- Private Medical Treatment Visa: For individuals coming to the UK for specialist treatment.
- Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visa: For professionals invited to perform a paid engagement (musicians, artists, lecturers, lawyers).
- Academic Visitor Visa: For researchers, professors, or senior doctors undertaking research.
Step-by-Step UK Visit Visa Application Process
- Initial Consultation & Strategy
We will have an initial free consultation to assess your personal circumstances and make sure you meet the UK visit visa requirements. If not, there may be another route available to you which we can advise on. - Document Checklist & Evidence Preparation
We work with you to gather and review the necessary evidence of residence, for your specific visa application. This is incredibly important as insufficient evidence is the number one reason these applications are refused. - Drafting & Submitting Your Online Application
Your application must be submitted online via the gov.uk website. Your dedicated immigration lawyer will submit the application on your behalf to ensure that everything is completed as it needs to be to reduce the risk of rejection. We will not submit your application if we don’t think you have a good chance of success. - Biometrics Appointment (Visa Centre)
You attend your local TLS/VFS application centre overseas. This is a mandatory step and allows the UK Home Office to confirm you are who you say you are. We will book this appointment for you and ensure all required documents are submitted electronically prior to your appointment to make this process as easy as possible. - Decision from UKVI
Standard processing times vary (often 3–6 weeks, depending on country).
Priority services may be available in some locations. While we can’t control the Home Office’s processing times, we can make sure that we process your application process quickly and effectively to give you the best chance of success sooner rather than later. - Travel to the UK
Once granted, you may enter the UK any time during the validity of your visa.
What If My Visit Visa Is Refused?
The only way to challenge a UK visitor visa refusal is through something called a Judicial Review. Unfortunately, this is a very complex process that can be very expensive and does not guarantee that they will change their mind.
If you win the Judicial Review, that forces the Home Office to withdraw their decision and revaluate your application. Ultimately, they can make the same decision and refuse you again.
This is why it is important that you make sure your application is as strong as it can possibly be, first time. You should only make your application if you are certain that you have crossed your t’s, dotted your I’s and have every last bit of supporting evidence that you need.
If you have started application and started to gather your evidence, it’s not too late to get a second opinion from an expert. We can review what you have done so far and guide you from there. Once you have submitted, however, it is too late for us to help.
